PWU Data Privacy
Policy Notice

Pursuant to the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (“DPA”) and its Implementing Rules and Regulations (“IRR”), PWU values and considers the privacy and security of the personal information it collects and holds in the course of its purpose and operations as an educational institution. “PWU” as used herein shall also refer to its departments, offices and affiliate schools.

I. What PWU Collects and Processes

  • PWU collects and processes your personal information, including but not limited to your name, photograph, address/es, email address, contact numbers, as well as that of your contact persons/legal guardians. PWU may also collect sensitive personal information such as age, gender, educational background of enrollees, students, and your parents/guardians/family.
  • PWU may collect personal information that are (1) voluntarily submitted to PWU via email or print-out to PWU, (2) disclosed to PWU in the course of the student’s or the parent/legal guardian’s interaction with the PWU’s personnel and representatives through mail, email, phone, or face-to-face meetings, contract or any arrangement with PWU, or (3) received from references or other appropriate means.
  • In the event that the student or his/her parent/legal guardian will not provide the personal information requested or required, or withdraws the consent previously given to PWU, PWU may not be able to render response or process submissions, applications, and/or requests

II. Purposes and How PWU Use the Personal Information

Personal information is collected for the educational purposes of the students, including but not limited to the following:

  • to enable PWU to respond to inquiries or comments about applications, accreditations, as the case may be;
  • to enable PWU to communicate and enter into arrangement and agreements in line with its primary purposes and operations;
  • to enable PWU to render and improve its services;
  • to comply with regulatory and legal requirements and reporting;
  • to perform other processing that may be essential or as may be permitted under existing laws and regulations;
  • to conduct background checking as may be necessary for its services;
  • to conduct marketing relevant to PWU’s services;
  • to monitor academic activities as well as extracurricular activities of students; and
  • to fulfill any other purposes directly related to the above-stated purposes.

Data collected may include personal information collected for purposes set out in the privacy statements contained in the documents signed by students and/or, if a minor, your parent/legal guardians, with PWU, it’s officers, staffs and/or personnel

III. Sharing of Information

The collected personal information is not shared with other outside parties, unless otherwise permitted by law, or PWU is under a duty to disclose or share it in order to comply with any legal obligation, or to protect the rights, property, or PWU’s safety, which includes exchanging information with other entities or agencies for the purposes of fraud protection. PWU also may share the personal information with outside parties whenever the student or his/her parent/legal guardian consents to or directs such sharing.

PWU is allowed to use and disclose personal information, and some sensitive personal information, pursuant to existing education laws or when the use is pursuant to lawful order of the court or tribunal. In the event any information will be shared or outsourced for processing with outside parties for purpose other than required disclosure to government agencies, the sharing and processing of personal information will be subjected to written agreements between PWU and the third parties, in accordance with the requirements of the DPA.

IV. Access, Storage and Retention of Personal Information

PWU is committed to take appropriate measures to protect the collected personal information and shall restrict this information only to personnel who are bound to discharge their duties in relation to the specified purpose, or as provided in its Data Privacy Policy Manual and as may be required under the laws and regulations.

PWU will retain the collected personal information for as long as it is either required to by law and regulations, or as is relevant for the purposes for which it was collected.

V. Rights of Data Subject

Pursuant to the DPA, PWU respects and upholds the data subjects’ rights in relation to the collected personal information. A detailed information about such rights is available at the National Privacy Commission’s webpage at https://www.privacy.gov.ph/know-your-rights/.

VI. Policy Update and Contact

PWU reserves the right to change or update this its Data Privacy Policy at any time by placing a prominent notice on its website (if applicable) or other documents that PWU provides in relation to its services and/or agreements.
