JASMS Manila Teacher Receives APCoRE Award

Ms. Regine Dela Cruz, a teacher from PWU JASMS Manila High School received the Best Paper Award on the recently concluded 2019 APCORE Convention and International Conference held last September 18-20, 2019 at the Hotel Jen, Pasay City with her paper entitled “Systems Thinking in Biology: Effects on Student’s Higher-Order Thinking Skills”.

The paper she presented focuses on the pioneer study on the application of Systems Thinking for the Basic Education in the Philippines, specifically in the Senior High School. It investigated on how perception of conceptual connections through the utilization of Causal-Loop Diagrams (CLDs) and Behaviour-over-Time-Graphs (BOTGs) affected students’ conceptual understanding, particularly the development of Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS).

The Asia Pacific Consortium of Researchers and Educators, Inc. (APCoRE, Inc.) is a membership-based organization of individuals, institutions and organizations that are committed and focused on the development of research, knowledge, and academic values in the Asia Pacific Region.

APCoRE helps research professionals in the Asia Pacific Region and around the world to gather, share experiences and enrich their knowledge on research and education.

Teacher Regine currently teaches Chemistry and Research in the JASMS Manila Senior High School Department. Her joy at receiving the award was echoed at PWU, which cited her as one of the reasons to be proud during this centennial year.
