PWU JASMS QC Dominates INCEthink Bridge Building Contest

Two teams from the PWU JASMS QC garnered major prizes at the recently concluded INCEthink Bridge Building Competition held last September 20, 2016 at the UP National Institute for Science and Mathematics Education Development (UP NISMED) Auditorium. Team C of PWU JASMS QC led by Angelika Faye Llarinas was declared as champion, while Team B, led by Sean Corpus, was declared the 2nd runner up.

The INCEthink Bridge Building Competition is a yearly activity of the UP Association of Civil Engineering (UP ACES) for their Annual National Civil Engineering Summit. For this year’s competition, contestants were asked to construct a bridge made from barbeque sticks strong enough to withstand a maximum of 35, 000 grams set of weights. Each school can send at most 4 teams with 3 members each. The students should be able to construct a bridge using 150 pieces of barbeque sticks and glue sticks as their adhesives under the required time limit of 3 hours.

Paul Keenan C. Butt, PWU JASMS QC STEM Adviser and Coach, said the students trained for almost 2 months and built at least 20 dummy bridges before coming up with the winning design piece.
