Padaca and Reyes at Women gab in Hawaii

 

            Two of the country’s women leaders, educator Dr. Amelou B. Reyes and Gov. Grace Padaca of  Isabela province  are featured speakers during the 3rd International Women’s Leadership Conference today (August 29; Hawaiian time) at Sheraton Waikiki Hotel in Hawaii, USA

.

            They will talk on the conference theme “Women with No Limits” upon the invitation of Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle who was the keynote speaker last January at the symposium “Issues in Women Empowerment” hosted by the National Council of Women of the Philippines (NCWP), the president of whom of is Dr. Reyes, held at the Phil. Women’s University.

 

            National President of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines and NCWP institutional director Dr. Amelita Go will likewise participate in the conference.

 

            Other invited speakers are  US Undersecretary of State for Diplomacy Karen Hughes, Executive Director of American Islamic Congress Zainab Al-Suwaigi, Pres. of Marrill Lynch Japan Securities Co. Izumi Kobayashi and Pres. of Hawaiian Electric Industries and American Saving Bank Constance Lau.

 

            Also joining Gov. Padaca and  Dr. Reyes, president of PWU, as speakers are Admiral Brice O’ Hara; Vivian Aiona, conference moderator and wife of Ltn.   Gov. James Aiona, Jr.; Renee Amoore, president of the Amoore Group and TV personality Paige Hemmis, president and CEO of Tuff Chix, Inc.

 

            Video tape messages of US First Lady Laura Bush, top TV host and philanthropist Oprah Winfrey and Dr. Johanette Cole will be shown during the one-day conference presented by the Office of the Governor, state of Hawaii.

 

            In her speech. Dr. Reyes will talk on “Transformative Leadership through Spirituality” sharing her struggles towards women’s advancement and spirituality in education.

 

            While in Hawaii, she will formalize agreements with a memorandum of understanding with the University of Hawaii (UH) and the Phil. School of Social Work of PWU.      The dean of the School of Social Work  of UH Dr. Jon Matsuoka was the keynote speaker at the lecture” The Relevance of the  Social Work” held recently at PWU.
