PWU marks Fine Arts Week

The holding of the School of Fine Arts and Design Week of the Philippine Women's University is set on January 24-27, 2012 with a series of activities to be held at the Bayanihan Paseo, Taft campus, Manila.

Dean Josephine Turalba said the celebration kicks-off with the unveiling of mural and interdisciplinary open studio exhibits featuring video and prints by PWU President Dr. Francisco Benitez.

A visual arts convention on the comic industry follows, the speakers of whom include comic artists Tony De Zuniga, Mico Suayan, Danny Acuna and Rico Rival.

The Tutok Visual Artist Group composed of Karen Flores, Wesley Valenzuela and Don Salubayba are the featured speakers on the 25th (Wednesday), afterwhich an on-the-spot sketching/drawing/painting contest will be held.

The speakers the following day are Rowie Requiero from Design Center of the Philippines, Ericka Masalonga and Neil Defeo who will talk an 3D Art. Activities on the same day are a workshop on Google Sketchup by MicroCADD, "Reduccion" Decorative Arts Design contest, an Eco-Production presentation and a fashion show.

Highlights of the final day on Jan. 27 are printmaking workshop by Ambie Abano and alumni-artist and former dean Pandy Aviado and Fil de la Cruz.

A video presentation tribute to asst. professor and former OIC of the School of Fine Arts from 1979-1986 Alfonso Miaga will be shown produced by Andrei Venal.

Closing the Fine Arts Week organized by the SFAD Executive Committee led by Fae Ricafort and Ronnie Macapagal is the awarding ceremonies where prizes and trophies will be given to winners of the various art contest.
