Brief History

The Department of Nutrition was organized in the Philippine Women's University in 1952. The department was placed under the College of Liberal Arts. In October of 1964, the department was transferred to the College of Home Economics.

In 1967, PWU established as an affiliate the Philippine School of Nutrition, Food Science and Technology with Dr. Ignacio S. Pablo as Director. The school was opened to both men and women. There were three areas of specialization leading to Bachelor of Science degrees, namely, BS in Food Technology, BS in Foods and Nutrition, and BS in Institutional Food Administration. The latter was expanded and became the spring board for BS in Hotel and Restaurant Management and was given DECS recognition in 1981.

To date HRM students have garnered five (5) Chefs on Parade championship trophies and is now ranked among the Hall of Famers in this category.

As information technology leaps ahead, PINFST felt the urgency to embrace educational innovation and flexible system of instruction that aims to develop creative, effective and economical ways of learning. To cope with the challenges of the new millennium, the restructuring of the curricular program was undertaken by ladderizing and modularizing course offerings.
