Mrs. Lina B. Laigo, Director of the PWU Institute of Family Life and Children Studies Apppointed as ACWC Representative

Mrs. Lina B. Laigo, Director of the Philippine Women’s University Institute of Family Life and Children Studies, has recently been appointed as the interim Philippine Children’s Rights Representative to the ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC).

This is the latest assignment in Mrs. Laigo’s long and distinguished career in the field of social welfare. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from PWU, she went to the University of Chicago to earn her Master’s degree in Communications in Social Development. In 1995, she was appointed Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). She returned to PWU in 2000, where she managed the guidance and counseling centers of PWU’s three campuses and established the PWU Institute of Family Life and Children Studies. She has been at the helm of the Institute for the past 18 years. She also served as Executive Director of the Council for the Welfare of Children (2002-2007).
