About the Centennial

The Philippine Women’s University was founded in 1919 to prepare young Filipina women for a life of productive and participative citizenship. During a period in Philippine history when national independence was yet to be realized, these enlightened women were emboldened by a vision of a future that gave due recognition to the essential role of women in nation-building. Today’s PWU remains true to the vision of its founding mothers while evolving into a modern institution prepared to meet the opportunities and challenges of the next hundred years. Join us as we celebrate one hundred years of quality education in the service of the nation.

The PWU Centennial Committee members are: Mrs. Victorina A. Sales (Chairperson, PWU Board of Trustees), Dr. Francisco B. Benitez (PWU President), Mrs. Lourdes M. Fajardo (President, PWU Alumni Foundation Inc.), Dr. Cristina Lim Yuson (President, PWU Alumni Association Inc.), Dr. Eugenio “Boy” R. Abunda, Mrs. Maria Lim Ayuyao, Mrs. Sylvia P. Lina, Mrs. Zita P. Sumagaysay, Mrs. Evelina “Beng” I. Atienza Mrs. Amelia C. Alonzo, Mrs. Suzie M. Benitez, Dean Olivia M. Villafuerte, Mr. Alfredo B. Reyes, Mrs. Lydia B. Brown, Mr. Marco M. Polo (Secretariat Director).

The future of PWU lies in your hands. When you make a donation, however big or small, you will contribute to PWU’s capacity building goals in two major areas: ENDOWMENTS which cover scholarships, professorial chairs and research and FACILITIES because quality education needs major investments in infrastructure and equipment outside of income from tuition.
