FOREWORD

This is a compendium of researches undertaken by administrators and faculty members of the Philippine Women’s University and its Affiliate Schools for Men and Women from November 1996 to November 2002. The Office of Research was created during school year 1996-1997 with the late Dr. Corazon Castro as its first Director. It aims to promote and strengthen the research activities in the University as a major component of its thrust towards academic excellence.
The Researches herein have been drawn from nine issues of the PWU Research Journal which includes abstracts of Masters Thesis and Doctoral dissertations normally published twice a year ending with Vol. 7 No. 1 of November 2002.

Upon my installation as the 8th president of the University, I created a Research and Development Division to further put Research as a centerpiece in our thrust towards being a de-regulated Center for Excellence anchored on a Faith Community. This Division is tasked to relate the Research activity of the university with the needs of business, industry, and international organizations and to generate research funds.

The companion volume to this compendium will contain the abstracts of Masters thesis and Doctoral dissertations.
