PWU Marks 91st Founding Anniversary

The Philippine Women's University celebrates its 91st founding anniversary this February with a month-long series of activities on the theme "Sustaining the PWU Legacy through Global Education, Rooted in Spirituality, Transforming Leaders for Service to Humanity" to be held at its Taft Manila and Quezon City campuses.

Alfredo B. Reyes, CEO and Board Trustee said activities slated are "Job Fair 2010" on February 9 where graduating students get to apply for employment and are presented to some 45 participating companies while a thanksgiving mass for teachers is set on February 12 at the Bayanihan Paseo, Taft campus.

A Teacher's Day celebration will be held on the same day in JASMS-Indiana campus, the tertiary level in Manila and at Girls High School.

From February 15 to 19, the School of Fine Arts will mark its Fine Arts Week which will open with a Street Art Exhibition along Taft Avenue, while on February 16, the JASMS-Quezon City will hold a Sports Fest and on February 18, the Female Ensemble of Girls High School will hold its concert at the Conrado Benitez Hall, Manila campus.

Highlight of the anniversary celebration is the CEO Convocation at 2:00 pm where Alfredo Reyes will be formally introduced to the nation's academic institutions and educational accrediting bodies and present his programs.

Earlier in the day, the Manila and Quezon City campuses will observe the Jose Abad Santos or JASMS's Day, the first board chairman of PWU.

Set on February 20 is the 79th PWU Reunion, 6:30 pm at the Dusit Thani Hotel organized by the PWU Alumni Association headed by Geraldine Tiongson Osias.

Other activities at Taft campus on February24 are Research Forum, TLE Food Bazaar of Girls High School and a free concert featuring Calla Lily, Paraluman and Imago sponsored by SGQ Friendster Phils.

The University Chaplain, Fr. Artemio Fabros will officiate in the thanksgiving mass on February 26 noon time, at the Our Lady of Miraculous Medal Chapel, Taft campus, after which the 91st Recognition Ceremony will follow at 2:00 pm to be held at Conrado Benitez Hall.

Capping the celebration is the PWU-JASMS Centenerun covering 1.5, 5 and 10 km run at the SM Mall of Asia grounds in Pasay City. The event is open to alumni, the PWU community, parents and running enthusiasts.
