Lim, Duque at PWU Nutrition Month Celebration
The Philippine Women’s University joins the country in celebrating
Nutrition Month from July 22 to 25, 2008 on the theme “Sa Wastong
Pagkain ni Mommy, Siguradong Healthy si Baby,” with Mayor Alfredo
Lim of Manila and Health Secretary Francisco Duque as guest speakers.
The program starts at 8:00 am with a mass to be officiated by Fr. Artemio
Fabros, followed with an opening ceremony to be held at the Conrado Benitez
Hall, Taft campus, Manila.
Chancellor Dr. Dolores Lasan will give the welcome remarks, afterwhich the
PWU’s new health cluster academic programs will be presented, namely: Master
of Science in Clinical Nutrition, Master of Science in Health Systems
Management and Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing.
The Health Cluster Alumni Directory put together by Deans Dr. Nini Lim,
Dr. Celeste Dimaculangan, Dr. Zenaida Sadiwa and Dr. Leonor Panlasiqui
will be presented to Geraldine Osias, president of the PWU Alumni
Association and Olivia Villafuerte, director of the Alumni Relations
Office.
Dean of the School of Nutrition Dr. Panlasiqui announced that highlight
of the celebration is the launching of the Nutrition Clinic Medical
Specialist and Diagnostic Center to be led by PWU President Dr.
Amelou B. Reyes who will deliver an inspirational message.
The series of seminars on July 23 to 25 will be on nutrition for
pregnant and lactating women, research and study grants opportunities
and on functional food and nutraceuticals,/of which among the products
be on exhibits, are from Nestle, Del Monte, Creative Bakers, Global
Marketing, Abbot Diagnostics, Slimmer World and PAN Bet.
Keynote lecturer is Dr. Graciano Yumul, undersecretary for Research
and Development of the Dept. of Science and Technology, while the
research presenters are Dr. Jeff Inciong, Nimfa Gambalan, Gregorio
Mendoza and Cleofe Ignacio.
The products to be presented are malunggay tea by Imee R. Garcia and
from Meridian Life International Inc. and Pedia Pharma.
Composing the panel of reactors are Dr. Christina Reyes of St. Luke’s
Medical Center, Perla Esguerra, chief dietitian of Phil. Heart Center
and Pura Badoy, president of Senior Citizens of Magallanes Village.
