Puno is PWU Commencement speaker
 

The Philippine Women’s University with the Commission on Higher Education conferred the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws on Chief Justice Reynato Puno during its 85th commencement exercises in ceremonies held recently at the Philippine International Convention Center, Pasay City. The Philippine Women’s University will hold its 85th graduation rites with Supreme Court Chief Justice Reynato Puno as commencement speaker on April 11, 2008, 8:30 am at the Philippine International Convention Center, Pasay City.

Chairman Romulo Neri of the Commission on Higher Education and PWU Board Chairperson Dr. Helena Z Benitez, assisted by PWU President Dr. Amelou B. Reyes will confer honory degree of Doctor of Laws on Puno, while CHED Commissioner Dr. Nona Ricafort will confer the Doctor of Humanities on Dr. Pornchai Mongkhonvanit, president of Siam University, Thailand and of International Association of University Presidents who will give the response.

Recipient of the Conrado Benitez Heritage Award, named after the late constitutionalist, noted educator and author is former Senator Ramon Magsaysay, Jr. for his distinguished career and role as legislator where he used his countryside Development Fund for the educations and training of needy capable youth.

Their citations will be read by Board Vice-Chairman Dr. Manuel Alba, Trustees Dr. Jose Conrado Benitez and Conrado Benitez III.

Justice Puno is cited for “leading the course in enhancing freedom and human rights that has resulted in giant step toward making the rule of law convergent, identical and synonymous with the reign of justice.”

The PWU likewise recognizes Dr. Mongkhonvanit’s “exemplenary leadership in uplifting the life of his fellow Thais and of humankind through his international educational involvement activities.”

Leading the over 900 graduating class are honor graduates Anna Tajminah S. Basman ( BA major in Psychology, Cum-laude), Andrew Rico C. Domasian (BS in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Cum-laude) and Rica Celina Escalada (Bachelor of Elem. Education, honorable mention.)

The candidates for graduation from the various academic clusters will be presented by Chancellor Dr. Dolores Lasan. `This year’s commencement committee is led by Dean Dr. Almeda Almeida, assisted by Dean Harold Galang.

On Thursday, (April 10) 3:00 pm, the Baccalaureate ceremonies will be held the Bayanihan Paseo, Taft campus, Manila with Archbishop Antonio Ledesma of Cagayan de Oro as main celebrant, assisted by University Chaplain Msgr. Hernando Coronel.
