Brief History

The School of Nursing was instituted and welcomed its first batch of students in June, 1961. Forty-one years after its founding, the college continues its innovative pioneering tradition and ideals with an enthusiasm and energy to make a difference in a global community geared towards developing professional nurses who will maintain a competitive edge in the 21st globalization.

The program flourished under the leadership of Dr. Leticia Perez de Guzman and Mrs. Purificacion Manzo Torres. From a thesis "The PWU College of Nursing" presented to the University by Mrs. Anastacia Giron Tupaz, the idea of opening a School of Nursing was born. Thus in June 1961, the first batch of students were welcome at its door's steps. Forty one years after its founding, the College continuous its innovative and pioneering traditions and ideals with enthusiasm and energy to make a difference in the global community.

Cognizant of the global educational thrust of the Philippine Women's University, the college provides an educational program that prepares professional nurses who are competent to provide specialized nursing care and who can function effectively for expanded and emerging role in any global setting where nursing is practiced.

  • In its early years and oftentimes even today, the dean and other members of the faculty, in fulfillment of their leadership function in nursing in the Philippines have been invited to be guest lecturers, speakers, resource persons or consultants in-service training in colleges of nursing
