BRIEF HISTORY

The Arts and Sciences Program of PWU is designed to develop the full potential of each student. Since its establishment in 1924, it has offered major areas of concentration, among them English and Psychology. In 1950, Social Work and Home Economics were introduced. In 1958, Guidance and Counseling as a Major was offered.

In 1959, the Department of Chemistry was placed under the School of Arts and Sciences. Ever alert to the needs and demands of the times, the College offered another new major in 1060, - Communication Arts with specialization in Broadcast and emphasis on Development Communication.

The college has produced a National Artist for dance in the person of Leonor Orosa Goquingco.

It has maintained an excellent so-curricular program which provides students with valuable experiences not only in their own fields, like the CA Media Week, Peer Counseling, but also in promoting love for our national language through the "Linggo ng Wika".

The College is also responsible for the Freshmen Program in terms of its curricular content and implementation. Administratively, however, the Freshmen Division is a separate unit.

The College is, likewise responsible for the requirements of General Education in all the University's curricular programs.
